Connect the Spheres: Earth Systems Interactions

Connect the Spheres: Earth Systems Interactions
Publication Date: April, 2014
Type of Resource: Practical activity/investigation

This online resource investigates the Earth's spheres, with emphasis on water.

The site gives students an understanding of the Earth’s four environmental spheres (ie., the biosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere and atmosphere) and how they are connected.

This activity is the introductory experience to a series of lessons about water resources on Earth. Students can investigate the previously mentioned Earth systems by making observations in nature and identifying the systems in the natural world.

Ultimately, the students will understand how the four spheres/systems are interconnected.

Additional Information

NASA's GPM (Global Precipitation Measurement) is an international mission using multiple satellites to collect rain, snow and other precipitation data worldwide every three hours. The resources and lesson plans on this site utilise some of this data and also encourage students to explore their environment and make connections.

You will need to email NASA for the answers to the questions posed throughout the resources and lesson plans. Email to: https://gpm.nasa.gov/education/contact
