Needs of living things - ScienceWeb
Publication Date: January, 2013
Type of Resource: Lesson Plan

This online resource is a teaching unit for Foundation Year students that supports an investigation into the needs of living things.

Through the first-hand experience of a guest presenter, Foundation students identify ways in which people look after a pet to meet its basic needs. Focus questions help identify what senses the animal uses to help meet those needs. Students use the experience to create a model of a pet and identify how they would meet its needs.

Additional Information

Suitable for students at Foundation level, this teaching unit could be implemented over several sessions and offers a valuable opportunity to engage student thinking, oracy and recording about real life experiences. It raises ethical considerations concerning the responsibilities that people need to address when providing a suitable environment for any given pet animal.
