FORMS OF ENERGY
LEARNING
INTENTIONS
Science Understanding / Physical
sciences / Year 8
In this investigation, different forms of energy and how
they can be transformed from one form to another are
investigated through examining the transformations
involved in hydroelectricity. Students explore common
‘energy transformation’ devices and recognise that
not all energy transformations are useful.
Learning Intentions
Students will be able to:
• identify different forms (or types) of energy;
• explain that one form of energy can be
transformed into other forms;
• represent an energy transformation with
a flow diagram;
• understand that any energy transformation
involves some ‘waste’ or non-useful energy;
• make accurate measurements;
• construct appropriate representations that allow
them to interpret and analyse the data;
• identify patterns and relationships in data;
• draw conclusions based on evidence.
How to use a CLE
The Science ASSIST project is supported by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training through the Mathematics and Science Participation Program.
