Australian Landforms

Australian Landforms: My Geography HOD asked me if I could access/buy any resources/texts on Australian landforms. I'm not having much luck and wondered if anyone could steer me in the right direction. Specifically, The Bungle Bungles (WA), Flinders Rangers (SA), Katherine Gorge (NT), Wave Rock (WA), Devils Marbles (NT), and the Three Sisters (NSW). The specific year focus is Year 8 but I'd be happy with anything at this stage.

Answer updated 18 January 2023

There are several organisations that have suitable resources:

Geoscience Australia

Teacher booklets are freely available from the Geoscience Australia website at: https://www.ga.gov.au/education/classroom-resources

The linked guide from Geoscience Australia highlights the different types of weathering, erosion and transport that can occur and provides examples of famous landscapes to enhance the understanding of these processes. The guide also has reproducible student activities and can be downloaded from: https://d28rz98at9flks.cloudfront.net/75055/Rec2013_016_Teacher_Notes.pdf (last accessed 18 January 2023) or via this link https://ecat.ga.gov.au/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/75055  .

TESEP

Teacher Earth Science Education Programme (TESEP) have a range of resources, see https://tesep.org.au/

TES Australia

https://www.tes.com/en-au/teaching-resources have a number of powerpoint presentations related to Australian landforms in particular the Devil's marbles, Uluru and Flinders Ranges (Folded landforms)

Woodside Australian Science Project (WASP)

The freely available Woodside Australian Science Project (WASP) materials for Year 8 discuss the formation of the Bungle Bungles and Wave Rock (and some others in Australia), see https://www.wasp.edu.au/mod/page/view.php?id=87.

The Year 8 package explores the following statement from the Australian Curriculum: Science; ‘Sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks contain minerals and are formed by processes that occur within the Earth over a variety of timescales.’ The materials also focus on classification.
