This online resource can be used by students as a beginner's guide to the Australian night sky. They can access a number of interactive activities, take guided tours of the summer and winter night skies to find constellations and planets, learn about Australia’s first astronomers, find out about the phases of the Moon and what causes the seasons.

Students can also take the Night Sky Quiz and follow instructions to find the south celestial pole using the stars. They can also become amateur astronomers using the tools and tips page to explore the night sky. 

Additional Information

This resource links with the cross-curricular priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. Students can find out about Australia’s first astronomers and how they used the constellations in their everyday life. 

This resource is meant to be used online as it consists of a number of interactive activities.

The resource contains some elements based on Flash technology. These elements will not work on the Apple iPad, which doesn't support this technology.
