Earth Viewed from Space
Type of Resource:
Presentation slides
This is a colour image of an astronaut on a space walk.
This awe-inspiring image of an astronaut using a jetpack against a background of the Earth could be used to provoke student thinking (e.g., "Do you think the photographed part of the Earth is in day or night? Explain.").
This image was taken over the Bering Sea, the northern extension of the Pacific Ocean bordered by Alaska to the east and Russia to the west. The bright blue of the sea is seen through an expanse of white swirling clouds. The curvature of the Earth, only visible from space, is also shown in the image. Beyond Earth is the blackness of outer space.
