Push pull - Museum Victoria
This is a unit of work that details ideas on engaging Year 2 students when exploring and developing their understandings on how a push and pull influences the way in which an object moves or changes shape.
This resource provides a gallery of images. A Year 2 teacher could use the advice in this unit to provide a range of first-hand experiences for students.
These might include inviting students to bring 'moving' toys to the science class and to explore a range of toys and how they move (e.g., marbles, spinning tops, balls, yo-yos, toy cars, battery operated toys).
Students could investigate pushing to make an object move faster or slower.
They could compare smooth with less-smooth surfaces. They could explore the effects of different slopes on the movement of toy cars.
