Practical activity/investigation

Forms of energy - Year 8 CLE

The CLE investigates the transformation of energy to different forms.

Description: In this investigation, different forms of energy and how they can be transformed from one form to another are investigated through examining the transformations involved in hydroelectricity. Students explore common ‘energy transformation’ devices and recognise that not all energy transformations are useful.

Learning intentions

Students will be able to:

Chemical Reactions - Year 10 CLE

Description:

In this investigation, four different types of chemical reactions are performed one at a time. Students then test their understanding by performing six further reactions and for each one: predict the products, identify the type of reaction and write balanced word and symbol equations.

This CLE represents an extension to what is required at Year 10 in Chemical sciences. The Australian Curriculum does not require students to write formula or write and balance symbol equations.

Plasticine Investigators - Year 1 CLE

This online resource introduces students to the concepts of physical change.

The resource is an ASSIST Connected Learning Experience (CLE) to help teach Year 1 students about the concepts of physical change.

Description: In these investigations, the physical changes made to plasticine when it is manipulated in different ways, including the softening of the material by warming, are investigated.

Learning intentions

Students will be able to:

Space explorers - Year 5 CLE

This online resource teaches about the planets in the solar system.

The resource is an ASSIST Connected Learning Experience (CLE) to help teach Year 5 students about the planets in the solar system.

Description: In this investigation, students research, collect and use data about the planets in our solar system, in order to assess their suitability for human settlement.

Learning intentions

Students will be able to:

The digestive system - Year 8 CLE

This online resource looks at the digestive system.

The resource is an ASSIST Connected Learning Experience (CLE) to help teach Year 8 students about the digestive system in higher animals.

Description: In this investigation, the role of the digestive system is investigated in the context of modelling the human digestive system.

Learning intentions

Students will be able to:

Weather watch - Foundation CLE

This online resource helps teach young students about the weather.

The resource is an ASSIST Connected Learning Experience (CLE) designed to help teach Foundation-year students about the weather.

Description: In this investigation, students investigate weather and how it affects them in the context of observing cloud formation, observing the effects of wind and describing changes in temperature.

Learning intentions

Students will be able to:

Back and forth - Year 10 CLE

This online resource covers energy transformation and conservation.

The resource is a Science ASSIST Connected Learning Experience (CLE) to help teach Year 10 students the concepts involved in energy transformation and conservation.

Description: In this investigation, energy transformation and energy conservation are investigated by analysing the motion of a pendulum.

Learning intentions

Students will be able to:

Biodiversity Study - Year 6 CLE

This CLE covers the concepts of environmental adaptation.

This online resource is an ASSIST Connected Learning Experience (CLE) designed to help teach Year 6 students the concepts of environmental adaptation.

Description:This investigation looks at how the physical conditions of an environment affect the growth and survival of living things as well as the biodiversity of the environment within the context of a comparative study of two local sites at a school.

Learning Intentions:

Students will be able to:

Magnetism and Electrostatics - Year 4 CLE

This Connected Learning Experience helps teach about non-contact forces.

The resource is an ASSIST Connected Learning Experience (CLE) designed to help teach Year 4s about non-contact forces.

Description: In this investigation, non-contact forces are investigated in the context of magnetism and electrostatic electricity to show that some forces can move objects without directly touching them.
