Being a soil scientist (QCAT)

This online resource looks into the factors affecting erosion.

The resource is an assessment task where students conduct an investigation into what affects and controls erosion.

The resource includes detailed background information about the science concepts, a student worksheet, a continua model of task-specific standards for A–E assessment, suggestions for student feedback and links to the Australian Curriculum.

The student booklet is used in conjunction with QCAT teacher notes. An alternative video link is provided.

W.A.S.P. Year 4 – Weathering and erosion

This online resource covers Year 4 Earth and space science.

The teaching package provides hands-on activities with teacher support materials to support all of the Year 4 Earth and space sciences components of the Australian Curriculum.

The activities are organised into six topics:

  1. Weathering and Erosion
  2. Soils
  3. Fossils
  4. Landscape Changes
  5. Man-made Changes
  6. Critical Thinking

Shaping the Earth's surface - ScienceWeb

This online resource looks at the processes that change the Earth’s surface over time.

The resource created by ASTA is a 5-lesson unit of work that teaches students about the geological processes and other phenomena that can affect the Earth and how they can change the Earth’s surface over time.

It includes links to digital resources and worksheets as well as the details of investigation into how water affects landscapes.

Beneath our feet - PrimaryConnections

This online resource investigates soils, rocks and the landscape.

The resource provides opportunities for students to explore how natural processes and human activity shape their surroundings.

Students’ understanding of soils, rocks and landscapes and how they change over time is developed through hands-on activities and student-planned investigations.

Students also investigate factors that affect the erosion of soils.
