Connect the Spheres: Earth Systems Interactions

This online resource investigates the Earth's spheres, with emphasis on water.

The site gives students an understanding of the Earth’s four environmental spheres (ie., the biosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere and atmosphere) and how they are connected.

This activity is the introductory experience to a series of lessons about water resources on Earth. Students can investigate the previously mentioned Earth systems by making observations in nature and identifying the systems in the natural world.

Geological Timewalk booklet

This online resource investigates geological time.

The resource is a 'Geological TimeWalk' Australian-centric teaching and learning booklet that can be downloaded as a PDF from GeoScience Australia.

Each section in this publication discusses a single geological time interval, and outlines the major geological, climatic and biological events which occurred in that interval.

Beginner's Guide to the Night Sky

This online resource introduces young students to the night sky.

The resource can be used by students as a beginner's guide to the Australian night sky. They can access a number of interactive activities, take guided tours of the summer and winter night skies to find constellations and planets, learn about Australia’s first astronomers, find out about the phases of the Moon and what causes the seasons.

Tsunami - The Ultimate Guide

This online resource is an introduction to the phenomenon of Tsunamis.

When using this resource, students (and teachers) will explore information about tsunamis and how they are formed.

They will examine the threat tsunamis present and the warning systems that are used in Australia. They will also explore what to do in the event of a marine or land tsunami threat and examine the Japanese and Thailand tsunamis and their effects.

Classroom Antarctica

This resource collection provides information on Antarctica and its wildlife.

Students can also access information from scientists on the processes involved in the Southern Ocean ecosystems and the Antarctic climate.

They can access interviews and images to gain an understanding of the exploration and history of Antarctica along with the activities associated with its environmental management and treaty law.

Interactive Water Cycle Diagram

This interactive diagram looks at the Earth's water cycle.

The resource includes an interactive diagram that shows how the Earth's water is not only always changing forms between liquid, solid and gas, but also moving on, above and within the Earth.

The interactive diagram contains interactive features that when hovered over, display information and links regarding each stage of the cycle.

The science behind glow in the dark toys

This PDF article is about photoluminescence.

The resource explains photoluminescence, which is created by the change of energy of electrons.

The article also suggests a series of questions that can be used by students to plan simple experiments using glow in the dark toys.
