Climate Change and Coral Bleaching

This online resource examines the bleaching of coral due to climate change.

The website provides detailed information on the role of rising ocean temperatures and ocean acidification in coral bleaching. It uses a variety of videos, animations and hyperlinks to present complex information in an interesting and accessible format suitable for Year 9 and 10 students.

Earthquakes

This online resource investigates fault lines and earthquakes.

The resource has been developed by Geoscience Australia specifically for use in the classroom and the material available on the site examines the occurrence and origins of earthquakes based on the plate tectonics model and has an overview of plate tectonics that distinguishes between the types of faults found at the different types of plate boundaries.

Solar System and Space Exploration - NASA

This online resource allows students to explore the Solar System.

Students can engage with images, videos and podcasts to explore the Solar System and learn about the Sun, Moon and the planets. They can also learn about the unique characteristics of each planet and their distance from the Sun.

The resource also allows students to explore information about meteors, asteroids and comets and how these objects travel through the solar system.

Australian Curriculum v9 Codes: AC9S2U01 (Year 2), AC9S6U02 (Year 6), AC9S7U03 (Year 7)

Weathering, erosion, landforms and regolith

This online resource looks at the geomorphology of Australia.

The resource is a PDF that was developed by the AGSO (Australian Geological Survey Organisation), a Commonweallth advisory body established in 1992 to provide information on the earth sciences and mapping of mineral resources in Australia. The PDF provides information on the processes of weathering, erosion and deposition for science and geography teachers under a creative commons license.

CSIRO ScienceImage

This online resource is a source of science-related images.

CSIRO ScienceImage is an online image library specialising in science and nature images. It is made available by the CSIRO (Australia's major science research organisation).

Users can search a wide variety of categories including: animals and plants, soil science, technology and equipment, landscapes and many more. They can then choose from a bank of over 4,000 images and videos to find that perfect image for your class, presentation or research.

Light, Sound, Action - Science by Doing

This online resource investigates the wave and particle models of energy transfer.

The resource is an inquiry-based learning sequence that covers energy transfer through different mediums using the wave and particle models. It includes hands-on activities, digital interactives, animations and videos.

The resource also examines what is a model, electromagnetic transmission, electricity and how sound is transmitted through a medium.

Students experience fieldwork and learn how to develop a scientific argument.

From Little Things Big Things Grow - Science by Doing

This online resource investigates cells and organs.

The resource is an inquiry-based learning sequence that covers the characteristics of life, cells, microscopes, cell organelles, tissues, organs and body systems.

It includes hands-on activities, digital interactives, animations and videos, and students learn to table and graph results and produce scientific drawings and also undertake dissections of squid and celery plants.

A teacher guide, activity sheets and assessment are also available.

Earth and space - Science by Doing

This online resource covers Year 7 Earth and space science.

The resource is an inquiry-based learning sequence that includes: hands-on activities, digital interactives, animations and videos.

The resource covers renewable and non-renewable resources, recycling, sustainability and ecological footprint, astronomy, gravity, orbits, weight and mass, telescopes and rockets.

Students also learn how to develop justifiable claims based on evidence and assess the likely impacts of new technologies.

Invertebrate Key

This interactive dichotomous key looks at the classification of invertebrates.

The resource is from CSIRO entomology. It is simple to use and enables users to work towards the identification of insects according to their observable features.

Once a particular invertebrate has been chosen, it includes information about their life characteristics, feeding, habitat, and life cycle.

The site also provides links to information about studying invertebrates as well as collecting and preserving them.
